Well where have I been?

Well I must say I have been away far too long!!!!! So many wonderful things happening this year. I will cap it off with my new studio space. And my first dollmaking class!!!! What a fun day we had. And there is more to come!!

I'm back!!!

Well I don't have a computer. Haven't had one since November. But God is good lots of wonderful things have happened. But I'm back.

Well sadly I'm back to dollmaking part-time sigh.... But I got a wonderful job with a wonderful boss!! So I am very grateful. Just have to get my strength to make dolls! Well preparing for Art-Is and planning to have a  good time.

Happy Dolling Today

1Today was the first time teaching little ladies how to make dolls. It was so successful! But exhausting lol! Was thinking about doll camp but thinking again lol.  Could I do that for a week? I don't know. Wow! I have learned a lot. I have always worked with children but without good assistance you are a lame duck in the water. Kudos to my assistants.

Yeah the Wall Street Bull project is over!! Now back to my first love.  First stop dollmaking class for children at 2163 Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City Church of  the Nazarene.  Ages 5 to 12. Next stop July 7 my birthday holiday party. Artfest this Friday at Creative Grove in Jersey City, NJ. Come and see me!

May is here and I missed posting for April (sad face).  On a job assignment but will forever be in love with my dolls!

The Bull!

Well working a cross the street from the Bull has put me in the company of many wonderful people! Lily! John! Betty! And the big boss Kimberly!!!!! I would love to be home finishing dolls at this point but I am working on a project in the nursing field. But I don't stop dreaming about my babies. Note to self learn how to manage both!

Well I have a temp assignment on Wall Street!! More funds to buy more doll stuff lol!!!! Fix up my studio better than before and other goodies!!! Grateful for the assignment. Only thing is dog tired and can't get dollmaking done (waaah! LOL!) But it will be worth it in the end. Just make me work harder. I work with 2 wonderful people Lily and John!!!! We are family! LOL!!!I just have to work twice as hard. How do we persevere when these obstacles get in the way? If you truly love what you do you will find a way!

I have 65 dolls that I have sewn or put together that need to be finished. 65! I am trying to avoid creating something new, but of course I made a new doll pattern lol!! Okay so 5 rag dolls need to be dressed. All of those dresses are done. Sew them up and dress the little girls. (I have to make some little boys too lol). Goal to finish dresses by sundown. Then I will start on some whimsical dolls. That's 10 dolls that I am preparing for a show next weekend. Whew! 10 down 55 to go. Really, I don't think I'm going to make it lol!!! Especially with other projects whirling around in my head. You know what would be great? You think of a doll or project and then bam! It appears already prepared lol! I can dream can't I. Oh well back to sewing.

New Sewing Room!

Well I had to expand my space! New sewing room coming up! Yeah! Of course I am excited. Next it will be a true store. But alas I have a work assignment from February to June. But it's all good. Extra finances will go well with a new doll business. I am making my list! Starting with fixtures to hold my stuff. Shelves will be built. Curtains will be made. I have 2 wonderful windows with wonderful sunlight. I am so excited. Goals don't you love them? LOL!

Well December 2011 was the busiet year in my life. LOL!!! Preparing for a show, filling orders!! Much was learned through that whole process. Now forward on in 2012~~ Yeah!!!! Again 2nd day and I am off and sewing. Took a week off before the New Year's celebration to re-group. Now more plans have been made and more action is needed to be taken. Almost Done!

So many dolls in my head lol!!! I am working on minis and raggedys at the same time. Almost impossible but I have to feed the deisre to create! The show 11/19/11 was fun! Met lots of interesting people. Lots of orders to fill. I will have to stay up 24hrs a day until after Christmas lol!!!  Almost finish minis. Thought I would be finished for this show. But I have another show in 2 weeks. In fact every 2 weeks until Christmas. In December I am having a trunk show. Date to be announced!

Well I will post in October on the heels of November lol!! Just back from the most wonderful conference around! I warned you to go to Art Is! If you didn't you missed a treat! If you couldn't then hopefully next year. Pin dolls and dollhouse dolls were a hit. More to come with jewelry with dolls hanging off of them. Go figure. Will be making it's debut in 2 weeks. Yeah! Then tell me what you think. Well still on an art high. Learned woodburning. Will be woodburning some mandalas on wood. What fun. I am using them to create backgrounds for doll displays. All roads lead back to dolls always!!!!

What will this creative change of season bring?? It was just August and blink it's September! Creativity is still flowing. Art-Is is coming up. The grand opening of my new doll business is coming up. I'm already in January of 2012. Whew!

Day with Dolls was held in Boonton NJ this year!!!! What a wonderful day!!!!Dollmaking, raffles, snacks and old friends. Nothing could have been better. Hmmm Day with Dolls where next year?

Creations

Finishing a prim for Saturday's big event! Day with Dolls is here! Finishing up a prim for show and tell. It takes the mind, body and soul. The idea starts in the mind, the body gets it into action. The soul produces the creation.

Pins! Pins! Pins!

Doll pins of course. They have taken over! Yes they are all sewn, cut out, turned and stuffed. 30 of them! They may not sound like a lot but tell my fingers lol! Now for the fun part, beading and embellishing.

Dolls of Course!

Well another project completed. A wonderful primitive doll was sent off to Patti Culea! She is making a DVD about her dolls and people who make her dolls. Ran out of business cards for the last event so I decided to make some. Made a little doll pin and attached it to the business card. What a success. So now I am on the doll pin mode. I am traveling to North Carolina this weekend so I am making as many litte pin dolls that I can to take with me to bead! I even found a cute little teddy bear pattern from a Soft Dolls and Animals magazine from last year. The pin patterns came from an artist by Ronda Kivett. She put free pin patterns on the internet a while ago. Making and beading them. They are so cute. Make a pin pattern? Why reinvent the wheel. Ronda said I could use her little pattern and I am. Sewing in the secret place by the light of the moon.

Tory Burch

Well the Tory Burch event was quite a success! She is the sweetest person! Gave her a doll pin too. Met Russell Simmons. My two mentors were wonderful Doreen Wright (retired Senior Vice President an CIO of Campbell Soup company. And Simon Collins Dean of Fashion at the Parsons school of design.  What a wonderful entrepenuer experience!!!! Pictures forthcoming. Tory Burch believes in women entrepeneurs and supports them with her foundation. Russell Simmons gave us a copy of his book "Super Rich"! I told my cloth doll story and it was heard! Yeah! Putting cloth dolls on the map even in the fashion world.

Events!

So much to do. Working nightly on my projects. Today I have a mentor workshop with world known Tory Burch, famous fashion designer. Russell Simmons is one of the speakers! Whew it's only 12:30 and I am showered and dressed for a 6:00pm meeting in the city. Making strides for the cloth doll world! 2 great festivals coming up! Preparing for Day With Dolls and Art-Is. I am a happy busy lady!

Sunday!

This Sunday has turned into sew day! Working on project after project. So I guess I'm never done with projects. Thank God.  More pictures are coming. The biggest project is the grand opening of my doll business.

Elevator Pitch Competition

Well I entered my executive summary into the competition. First I got selected to complete. First round I was selected to enter the finals. Didn't win the monetary prize. However the new friends I met and contacts I made were price less!!! My Prayer Angels got on the map!!!

Soon my birthday will be here and I am planning something special. A happy birthday cookout for me! Featuring dollmaking of course!! I think I will post that! The date will be July 2, 2011. What happened to April!!!!

Wait a minute what happened to April??? Where have I been for 30 days lol!!! Well it came and went too quickly as we approach mid year time. Soon it will be June! Lot's of things happening. Mostly dolls and Art Is. Taking a class with the wonderful Sherry Goshon and Jean Bernard. Can't wait!!

Working on Sewing!!

What could be better on a snowy day in March(hmmm) than sitting in your new sewing room getting it together. Looking at all the treasures you put away re-surface! I took a mental day off from work. House clean, dinner cooked, now it's my turn!!!

March already!!

Well March is here and I almost finished my sewing room yeah!! Though its small it's just right for me. It has lots of sun and a door to the balcony. It's my little get-away! If I could fit a bed back there my husband would never see me lol!!!!!! Well it's Women's history month as well as craft month. Two treats in one. Got some creating to do. By next weekend I will hopefully celebrating the opening and christening of my new room!

The Weekend

Though blustery and down right cold outside, had fun planning with my sister Pam Art-Is things, doll things, ATC's, ornaments, vending. She keeps me grounded. "October will be here before you know it" she says. She doesn't know all of the things I have in between it lol!! I have to keep creating and finding me. I do that in my dolls. My thoughts and dreams. Nurse by profession I feel I could help people heal better through dolls. Look for the therapy part of my doll making to come forward real soon!!!!!!

Post Valentines Day!

Well Valentines Day has come and gone. Me and my husband had a wonderful time!! Out to lunch and then home!! We exchanged the most wonderful cards. But the most special gift, a pair of Angel wing earrings. They are so delicate and light they look like they came fresh off of an Angel!!! I am sooooooo blessed. This weekend I am attempting to finish my craft/sewing room so that I can work in it. I have so many projects to work on. Dolls is #1!!! I need some ideas for curtains! Something creative. Thanks to my nieces Sonarri and Johari!! Love you ladies.

Valentines Day!

Well at first I was spending Valentines Day at home alone ......(sigh). But now my husband is taking off so making Valentine Day dolls is now out lol!! Oh well I guess we will be making google eyes at each other. Love him soooo much lol!! Enough mushy stuff. I am going to Ohio to AFIC. Trying to get all I can in. My son is going to private high school in Sept and my budget is going to get tighter. Still dreaming of my dolls and creating though. In August I am hosting a big event in Jersey City. Art on the steps of City Hall. I have that project to dream about now.

February is the Love Month!!

Happy February everyone!! I received the most wonderful box of goodies from my friend Sallianne!!! Inside were 10 clay molds from faces to hands and feet. There are clay faces, small doll kits, clay (fimo and sculpey), clay softener, over 10 bags of buttons and beads, the most wonderful designed notebook in antiqued ticking fabric! An edition of "Where Women Create" magazine, the most amazing bead kits.  Wow!!!!!! I was screaming lol!!!! My husband kept saying what what WHAT!!! I just kept saying THE BOX!!!!!LOL!!! What a wonderful treat on a cold winters day lol!! Now to play and have fun with "The Box" LOL!!!

Sigh!

I am moving and shaking! So many things have come my way. Went to my hairdresser and sold 3 dolls. I have to complete 1 but 2 of my prims are done! Woo hoo!! I'm in there doing something. Went to Joannes and bought some goodies and the latest Soft Dolls and Animal. It was a prospersous day. Thank you God for the gift.

Peace at Midnight

It's 1:30 am. There can be peace in the midnight hour. When you know your children, no matter how old, are resting peacefully. And you can think clearly and creatively. When you sit back and think of all the blessings you are bestowed with. And you can't help but think thank you God for all your many blessings.

Well I'm not feeling good at all. Maybe for once when I'm not feeling well I will sew anyway. Getting ready to cut strips for my Prim ladies dress. What colors. I love rusts, greens, reds, orange and black. Let's see what I can do.

Fabric

Shopping for fabric is such a spirit filled release!! Takes me away from the cares of the job. I just pray I can find a job doing what I love sigh....why can't I just make dolls from 9 to 5.

Last Post

LOL!! For my last post I waited for 1/1/11 and posted at 11:11. You can't get no more number 1 than that. I feel good today! I am good so therefore I create. I learned a valuable lesson at the very end of the year and the beginning of the New Year. I started losing myself artistically trying to prove to people I am an artist. I compromised. How? I was so intent on making these people see that I was an artist that I lost focus. And guess what they still didn't take me serious. Does that mean I am not a serious artist? NOOOO! That just means I am not part of that clique. I have to get back to myself. I have to get back to myself. I lost that battle and guess what it's all okay. I took my eggs out of that one basket. I have made so many art friends. Those other people they are still people I know. Like my husband said I always want to make everybody my friend. Sometimes you try so hard that you can't see when people don't really like you. And that's what makes the lesson valuable!!! Because you don't and won't die if everyone doesn't like you!!! The lesson only becomes valuable when you get it. So now my affirmations are I am great! I am talented! I am a teacher and a leader! I love me! Whew it took me 50 years and a day. But I said it. And guess what the 5 great followers of my blog, the people who actually said I am interested in you, will be the recepient of this great soapbox blog today!!! Thank you! And I feel good!!!! It's New Year's Eve!!!!

It's7:00 PM New Year's Eve!!! The next post from me will be saying HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! With my loving husband and children and wonderful grandson and extended children!!! New Ladies

New ladies just coming out the oven! All kinds of wonderful colors. The ladies even had some Merlot 2007 (a good year lol)! I am going to take pictures of their journey. Someone has a little burn on her hiney but she is dry! I love what I do! Next it will be time to dress them. Later on this morning I am going into Staten Island to go to JoAnnes fabrics to pick up supplies. Have some more wonderful tricks up my sleeve. This is more than a tea dyed button doll LOL!! These are works of Art!!!!!!!!!!

New Prims!!!

I am making dolls. Thanks to a rescue from my friend. Brenda for some polyfil, I am able to complete 2 dolls! Yeah! They are sewn up and ready for the next step. As soon as I put them together then the fun part. Making them look different, old, antiqued, distressed, primmed out yeah! LOL! Should you laugh to keep from crying or should you cry between the tears. Just do both.

New Year's 2011!

Well a New Year is coming!! My only job will be making dolls!  Working on what I love most. Dolls.

Merry Christmas!!!!

This is the best Christmas ever!! My husband cleaned the whole house for me. Luv him. Vended outside December 24, 2010!!! What a wonderful experience. I didn't finish my prims to put out but I still had other dolls to go. And 4 of them left for new homes yeah!!!!! It was cold for sure so my husband and 2 sons came to rescue me with a ride home. Yes the gentlemen packed my stuff, carried it to the car and got me home safely!!!! But Christmas morning all of my children came over for breakfast. Greg made breakfast! (best husband in the world!! Now  this was one of the best Christmas's we have had. Now to brace ourselves for the snow. Let's see. Lot's of food, making dolls, I can't think of a better way to start my vacation!!! Have some new ideas for my dolls, including an add on to my name. But right now just relaxing with my honey.

All the Little Prims!!

Well 12/24/10, which is a very Holy day for me, I will present  dozen or so small Prims. I might have to make them little felted sweaters and hats because it's gonna be cold outside lol!!! I am still working!!

I was talking with Michael DeMeng on facebook. He is interested in my fabric rusting and I am taking one of his classes at Art Is. After reading one of his books and the coaxing of some friends I am going to enhance my dollmaking by going over to the DeMeng side lol!!!!! Prims beware!! Worked on some wonderful recipes. The sky is the limit. I am ready lol!!!!
Wow is Christmas this Friday. Plan to go down to Grove Street in Jersey City and Vend!!! Come on by and see various dolls including my new Prim line!!! This is such a special day for me. It's a holy night!!!!! I am not a fan of winter but Christmas Eve, outside vending, big tent with lights and a busy thoroughfare, selling my precious ladies. What an event!!!!!! Can't wait. Come down and join me from 2 to 8!!!

Ahhh Art Is

It will always be Art Is and not Art Was lol!!! As soon as 1 conference ends we start to prepare for the next one. I had soo much fun. Sallianne and Ellen are the best. I have special gifts for them, my class. My class was wonderful. Tough crowd loved them though. Will post pictures!

Art Is You!

So excited about Art Is You! Time to start  packing and preparing for the trip. I have 6 students in my class! Soon I will post the supply list and all of the fun we will be having. For starters ladies you need to start packing: 1lb bag of fiberfill. Don't buy cheap fiberfill it will cause lumps.
Stuffing tool: hemostats, stuffing tool, (whatever you like to stuff dolls with)
Basic dollmaking kit: needles, thread, scissors for fabric and paper
Fabric for clothing (a pattern will be provided for clothing).
That's all I have right now.
